JCDS, Boston's Jewish Community Day School, welcomes applications for all classes, from Kindergarten through 8th grade. The school admits students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin.

Our main cycle of admissions requested applications by the end of December for enrollment the following September. We welcome applications year-round when space in the appropriate class/es is available.

Prospective families interested in visiting the school should please contact Helen Quint, Director of Admissions and Community Outreach, at 617-972-1733 extension 205, or by email at helenq@jcdsboston.org.

Open Houses are scheduled throughout the academic year. Visitors have the opportunity to hear about our approach to education and to tour the classrooms. We appreciate a phone call or email to confirm your plans to attend an Open House.
If the dates and times of our Open Houses are not convenient, please contact Helen to schedule an individual appointment.

Our schedule of upcoming 2007 Open Houses is as follows:

Morning Open Houses:
February 12th (Tuesday) 9-11 am
March 12th (Wednesday) 9-11 am
May 14th (Wednesday) 9-11 am
June 2nd (Monday) 9-11 am

Our admissions process:

  • Families inquire and learn about our philosophy and the approach to education at the school. In most cases, parents attend an Open House or schedule an individual tour with the Director of Admissions. Printed material is available through the Director of Admissions, either by mail or at the school. (617-972-1733 ext. 205)
  • An application form (which can be downloaded from this web page if not received at school or in the mail) is submitted with a $100 application fee. The form offers parents the opportunity to describe their children in as much detail as they wish.
  • When written authorization is given as part of the application, JCDS sends for school or preschool records.
  • Materials and instructions for applying for Flexible Tuition are provided to those who request them on the application for enrollment.
  • Student visits are arranged at a mutually convenient time. Applicants for kindergarten and first grade typically visit for an hour. Students ages 7 - 13 are invited to spend a whole day or a part of a day at the school.
  • An Admissions Team comprised of staff and faculty reviews information about each applicant to assess whether or not each candidate is likely to be a happy and successful learner at JCDS, with the school's high level of expectation for individual responsibility, independent and group work, and with its challenging curriculum (two languages, Jewish studies in addition to secular studies, and the integration of subject areas).
  • An Admissions Team reviews the information available for each applicant thoroughly in order to determine the school's response.
  • Kindergarten enrollment is offered to students among the applicants who, in the opinion of the Admissions Team, are developmentally ready for kindergarten and who will come together as a dynamic class that is balanced and diverse.
  • Students are invited to enroll in grades 1 though 8 as space permits, after a review of their learning styles and needs on the backdrop of the learning styles and needs of the other students in the classroom.
  • Within a few weeks of being invited to enroll, parents are asked to return signed contracts with enrollment deposits to secure their child/ren's space/s.
  • Families who apply for Flexible Tuition are sent decisions by the Flexible Tuition Committee after their students have been invited to enroll. The Admissions Team, which remains focused on the students and their learning profiles, is not involved in financial decisions.
