After School Program | תכנית אחר-הצהריים |

The JCDS After School Program is a neighborhood-like environment for our students and supports the working schedules of JCDS parents. The program operates Monday through Friday from the end of the school day through 6:00 pm, and on Fridays we close ninety minutes prior to sundown for Shabbat. We also offer special programs on days when school is not in session. These include Parent Teacher Conference days, professional staff development days, and some school vacation days. Our program is so central a part of the school that nearly 80% of our students are enrolled in some part of the After School Program.
The After School provides a happy, nurturing environment, maintaining the mission and philosophy of JCDS. After-School offers a balanced program to meet the varied needs of JCDS students of all ages each afternoon. The program has two components — general After School activities and Chuggim, clubs, led by professional specialists. Families may enroll their children in After School for as many, or as few, afternoons a week, and in whatever combination of general programming or Chuggim works for the family.
In the general After School program, the extensive staff-guided and student-initiated activities typically include board games, art projects, quiet reading, LEGO play, playground recreation, gymnasium play, and informal games and sports. In addition, the general After School program provides a staff-run homework center where help is available for both General and Judaic studies, whether in English or in Hebrew. Also, students are encouraged to help one another with homework, particularly upper grade students assisting those in younger grades.
The following Chuggim (clubs) are presently offered at various times throughout the year: piano, guitar, cooking, pottery, chess, martial arts, sports, Talmud, speech team, science, arts & crafts, and running.
